A Minneapolis Park Police officer Mark Bedard died more than a week after he was struck by a squad car while chasing a suspect.  Officer Bedard was running after a suspect when he was hit in an alley by the squad car, which was also pursuing the suspects.  The injury occurred November 1 when police got a call of shots fired in the vicinity of 27th Avenue North and Irving Avenue North in the city's Jordan neighborhood.  When officers arrived, they began following the car leaving the area.  Officer Bedard started chasing the suspects on foot into yards and an alley.  A marked Minneapolis Police Department squad car, hit Bedard when he crossed into an alley.  Officer Bedard died on November 9, 2007 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Officer Bedard was a 12-year veteran of the park force.  He is survived by his wife, Andrea and their son, Nick.
