St. Paul Police Department

OFFICER FRANK MILANOSKI
St. Paul PD
Died August 15, 1924

On Thursday night, August 14th, Officer Frank Milanoski stopped a vehicle whose occupant, Peter Liko, had yelled at him. According to Liko, he was driving on Arcade Street when he saw Milanoski's vehicle make a "horseshoe" turn at an intersection in front of him. Liko then yelled at Milanoski, saying that what he did was illegal and endangered other drivers. Liko then continued down Arcade, but Milanoski drove alongside him, jumped out of his car and asked Liko, "what business he had 'calling him down.'" Liko then got out of his car and Milanoski hit him, causing him to fall down. Liko stated he tried to pacify Milanoski, but Milanoski hit him again so he hit the officer in "self defense." Milanoski staggered, fell backward, hit his head on the curb and died a short time later of a fractured skull.

Peter Liko, a former deputy sheriff, was charged with second-degree murder.

Officer Milanoski died on his 40th birthday. He joined the department September 26th, 1917, as a motorcycle patrolman. On March 5, 1924, he was assigned to the Margaret Street Station as a patrolman. He was survived by his wife, Mary, and five children, (the oldest being 16): John, Joseph, Bernard, Stanley and Helen. His funeral was held Monday, August 18th, at the Eggert Funeral Home at 762 East 7th Street.
