| DETECTIVE JAMES A. (BERT) WEARE Minneapolis PD Died February 7, 1919 Detectives J.J. McGuire and James A. Weare went to 52 22nd Avenue NE dressed as laborers looking for a robbery suspect. McGuire questioned the suspect's sister as to his whereabouts, while Weare looked around the house. He found a closed bedroom door and as he opened it, a shot was fired. Weare was hit in the heart and died instantly. McGuire ran to assist Weare and the suspect ran out the back door. McGuire pursued him and shot him as he scaled a fence. He also died instantly. The suspect was identified as Albert Gentz, who was later connected to several robberies. Weare was 40 years old and was survived by his wife and daughter. He was hired July 1, 1910. His funeral was held on February 10 at the Scottish Rite Temple at Franklin and Dupont Avenues. He was buried at Lakewood Cemetery.
