On Thursday, May 25th, Officer Joseph E. Kreager drowned while checking anglers on Grand Lake north of Duluth. Five days later, on May 30th, his boat was found and his body a short distance away. An autopsy revealed he died from an accidental drowning. He was 49 years old and had been appointed to the DNR in 1915. He was survived by his wife and a daughter, Alice. His funeral was held on June 1st at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in East Duluth and he was buried in Calvary Cemetery.
