| AGENT WESLEY ALLEN FRASER ATF Died January 2, 1928 On Monday, January 2nd, Agent Wesley Allen Fraser was supervising the seizure of a still and a ton and a half of coal at 506 Fifth Avenue South in South St. Paul. Two weeks prior, the house had been raided by Fraser and Carl Olson and three men had been arrested for operating a still. When Fraser returned for the seizure of the coal, the homeowner, Gulob Nikolich, 46, wasn't home, so Fraser went through the basement window. When Nikolich found out Fraser was at his home, he told his stepson and a boarder to get the car and they went to the house. Upon arrival, Nikolich got out of the car and ran to the house. Seeing Fraser's coat in the cellar, Nikolich shot at him through the cellar window saying, "I told you to keep out of here." The first shot hit Fraser above the heart and he fell to the floor, Nikolich fired again and hit Fraser in the hand. He then fled. Fraser pulled himself through the window and into a field. An ambulance was called, but Fraser died enroute to the hospital. After the shooting, Nikolich asked to go to the police station, but the car ran out of gas. So he called police and he was arrested. He later admitted to the shooting saying he was mad at the agent. He was charged with first-degree murder. Agent Fraser was 34 years old. He was born June 12th, 1894. He had been with the ATF since November 22nd, 1926. He was survived by his wife and three children: two daughters, 9, and 5, and a son, 1. His funeral was held at the Armory in Redwood Falls on Thursday, January 5th. He was buried in the local cemetery.
