As Officer Albert Anderson was trying to stop a runaway horse pulling an ice wagon in the area of 24th Avenue and Fillmore Street Northeast, the horse knocked him down and stepped on him, puncturing his abdomen. He later died at St. Barnabus Hospital.

He was 53 years old and had been with the department for 24 years, hired on January 1st, 1904. He was a widower. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery.
