CONSTABLE ARVID LUNDGREN
Koochiching County Sheriff's Office
Died November 21, 1928

On Wednesday afternoon, November 21st, two men walked into one of the restaurants in the village of Big Falls. One of them brandished a revolver. It was thought he did this to intimidate the people inside. A female worker called for the village marshal and Constable Arvid Lundgren responded. As he walked in the front door, the suspects ran out the back. Lundgren pursued them down the street and a shot was heard. Citizens found Lundgren lying on the ground with a bullet wound to the neck. Sheriff Reidy was called and he responded along with D eputy Arthur Nelson and Deputy Coroner Bussman, but Lundgren was dead when they arrived. One suspect was arrested a short time later and the other remained at large. A posse was formed and the area was searched for five days.

On Monday, the suspect, Elmer Larson, walked out onto the road a few miles east of Effie in Itasca County and surrendered to three deputies. He was unarmed when arrested and told officers that he threw the gun away. He stated his true name was Frank Peters, but he usually went by Elmer Larson. He was around 30 years old.

Marshal Lundgren was 42 years old.
