OFFICER JOHN LINKLATER
DNR
Died July 8, 1933

On Saturday, July 8th, Game Wardens Joe Brickner and Linklater left Windton to partrol the Basswood Lake area. Mrs. Linklater requested to go along to go to their cabin on the lake. On the Newton Lake portage, Brickner injured his back carrying the canoe. They continued on to Pipestone Falls where it was decided that Brickner would rest while Linklater took his wife to their cabin. About 6:00 p.m. two Minnesota Power and Light employees found Brickner and advised him they heard that a canoe had overturned on the lake. Brickner got a boat from a nearby resort. He found the overturned canoe and then went to the Linklater cabin where he found Mrs. Linklater. She told him that the canoe overturned a little way from the cabin and they were both thrown from the boat. When she came to the surface, she found Jack dazed and disoriented. She had him hold on to the canoe and he told her to go for shore. It was believed that the motor on the canoe hit him since he had a bruise on his forehead when his body was found on Wednesday.

Officer Linklater was 65 years old. In addition to his wife, he was survived by his daughter, Mrs. Victor Wirta. His funeral was held Friday, July 14th, at the Laing Mortuary.
